Wear a quality dust mask, not just while scroll sawing but whenever you are sanding or doing anything producing dust.

Home made or commercial dust collection systems and room filters are not enough. Yes they will reduce the amount of air born dust, but your lungs will find plenty that they miss!

I use an AirMate by 3M that keeps the sawdust out of my eyes and hair as well. The mask is very light and comfortable and the view is distortion free. You can find them by looking in your local Yellow Pages under safety equipment. It isn't cheap, but it is much less costly than diminished lung capacity!

It is a powered air supply unit and runs on a battery or AC adaptor. The battery and air filter are in the blue box my mask is hung on in the picture. I have the box hung on my saw and run it off the AC adapter. I only use the battery when I want to use it somewhere other than the saw.
